Note! This utility has been discontinued with the release of the Portable XLS Printer for Microsoft Excel that does everything that it does and more.

This utility is an add-in programmed in Microsoft® Visual Basic® for Application (VBA) that makes possible to preview and print your Microsoft® Excel® sheet or a range in another computer thru email. See the pictures below.

It consists of only one file, the PrintThruEmail.xla, which is about 210 kb in size and can be installed automatically using one of the installer package files available below to download. You also can uninstall it automatically using the same installer file, leaving no mess on your Microsoft® Windows® Register or disc.

- It creates a special sheet catching only the necessary data to an identical printout or visualization and attaches it to an email message left almost ready for you verify and send

- By catching only the print data, it obtains a well reduced size file and avoids sending confidential data, formulas, links and authorial secrets. The print setup options of the special sheet will be the same as the original sheet's setup: paper size, orientation, header, footer, margins etc. These are the great advantages of this utility in relation to direct solutions offered by Excel for sending sheet or print area by email. - PrintThruEmail.xla is also useful in cases where you want to email a printout for a recipient to view in the display through Excel or a free sheet viewer, and not necessarily to print

- PrintThruEmail.xla is useful whenever the necessary for an identical print is less than the full content of the sheet and particularly when sending sheets containing autofilter that filter thousands of lines down to some tens of lines or when there is information in the original that is confidential in parts or when seen all in all

- The PrintThruEmail.xla installer does not modify Excel menu structure or result in the utility being opened every time you run Excel. Instead, PrintThruEmail.xla should be launched by the shortcut created in the Windows environment or directly from Windows Explorer only when your sheet is already opened in Excel and is ready to be printed

- In one run it is possible to print any of the sheets in any of the workbooks that are already open in Excel, including macro sheets

- The sheet to be sent can optionally be protected against changes

- The great advantage of sending an Excel sheet file to print relative to sending a graphical (e.g. TIF) file type or a print (e.g. PRN) file type is the file size in bytes. Also the recipient can still use Excel to view the sheet and edit it, if not protected, and to print it on any type of printer. Preparing the sheet to be attached to the email is a very fast operation

- If you're a VBA developer and want to use the PrintThruEmail.xla in your project, it can be called silently by code in this way:

The called function can give the following return values:
Ret = 0 (Success in the print or cancelled by the user)
Ret = 1 (Failure: workbook not found)
Ret = 2 (Failure: sheet not found)
Ret = 3 (Failure: wrong password or any other reason).
